Remington 700 CDL 30-06
« on: June 28, 2013, 01:18:38 PM »
Anyone experiencing variations in trigger pull weight with the factory trigger in a relatively new 700?  I had a text exchange with Remington Tech support and the gentleman that I discussed this with informed me to remove the trigger adjustment screw and the default trigger pull would be 3 1/2 lbs.   Well I did this and using my Lyman Digital Trigger Pull Gauge the variation is from a high of 5lbs 9 oz. to 2lbs 9 oz.
Today I called Remington's 800# and spoke to a gentleman who said send the rifle to Illion.. He sent me a prepaid UPS Label and said it would take 2 - 3 weeks to turn it around...
Has anyone had the Remington factory work on a 700 trigger and how did it turn out?  Would I be better off in the long run to just "bite the bullet" so to speak and buy a Timney trigger and install it myself.  I have done this before a long time ago aon another Remington 700.
Any suggestions are most appreciated.  Thank you in advance..  Rol

Well if you are willing to give the rifle up for that long and see if it helps I guess send it in. I have never done that. Personally I would replace the trigger. That and about a hundred and thirty bucks will get you one at Midway.

Not hard to adjust a Remington trigger.  Just follow directions or take it to a gunsmith.  They are very good triggers.

Quick update, I found a video on the net and went at my trigger and it now varies from 3lbs 3.8oz to 4lbs 1oz. with the 10 string average at 3.7lbs.  This seems to be a huge improvement over the factory settings... I will not be able to get to the range to test it until next week.

Sounds like you got it close to perfect as you're likely to get it (IMHO).  One little thing to be aware of though - give it a little time, say a few hundred rounds and recheck it.  A lot of times the mating process will lighten things up a bit, perhaps too low.  It's just my opinion of course but I don't think there's a need for a trigger lighter than 3lbs on anything but a bench only gun.  Too many things happen in the field and 3 1/2 lbs is a nice light compromise I use myself.
