I am debating on buying myself a new 336 in .30-30 and was just curious of everyone's experiences with the newer ones. I am planning on building a scout rifle out of it. I used to own a 336CS, but had a brain fart and sold it.

I think you would not be disappointed.
Now get out there and get it.
Better yet, buy an older one in nice shape.

strider72 - I agree with RIFLERANGER if you can locate a good used one you won't have to deal with the cross bolt saftey and it will probably be pre-drilled for receiver sights, unlike the new ones! I picked up a 336 in .35 Rem recently for around 275.00 and it's a keeper! (if I can get it away from my dad). I've got a 1895 GG set up as a scout rifle and it's great! Go for it! CEJ.. :D
If I can't take my rifles with me, I don't want to go!

Go with the Marlin, Winchester has been shipping junk lately, and customer service is worse,  that's my personal experience lately. Won't ever buy a new one again. T/C is on the list next.
squeeze it, don't pull it!!!!

I am a rather new pup on this board. Nice to make new 30-30 friends.
I haw a two year old Marlin 336 C. I really like it. I am use to the cross bolt saftey. It takes time but you can get use to it. I love the Marlin. The only Winchester I would buy today would be an older one befor 1964 and It would have to be in good shape. That rifle would set you back about 5 bills.

My Marlin shoots at 1 1/4 inch with Speer 170 gr. loads. It took some time at the range to find just the right load. Once you find that load, don't touch it.

The Rem-Chester Mart store stuff shot at 1 3/4 to two "2" groups with the 150 gr. stuff and the 170 gr. shot a little better at just  about 1 1/2 inch three shot groups.  Not bad for over the counter stuff and a 150 yard shot or less.

My rifle has a 4X Bushnell scope. I am wanting to take the scope off but my eyes are not what they use to be. The Rifle is a dream to carry into the woods where I hunt. I ment to ask you. Do you reload?

strider! i would look for an older one i good shape. the new ones are great quality but they have the cheesy crossbolt safety. yu can get and older one for less buks anyway. i have heard of kits to deactivate and doo away with the safety tho on the new ones. :D
