little dents in .223 cases?
« on: July 01, 2013, 12:44:14 PM »
Do you guys worry about little dents in .223 cases. I think alot of the cases get the dents from ejection out of an AR. Thanks, Don

Not one bit.  If the case is not cracked and it will size, the internal pressure of firing it again will either slam the dents back out to spec of your chamber or split the case.

They don't bother me at all. Also no noticeable affects when using them.  :)

Or change the load.

Small dents do not bother me at all. However, large dents do bother me and are culled out before sizing.

Just out of curiosity, are the dents occurring when you shoot the gun, or sizing the brass? I haven't noticed any real dents when I shoot, but might get some small ones on the shoulder when I'm sizing. I've pretty much eliminated that problem with Imperial sizing die wax. Depending on how the ejector is adjusted the empty case can hit the case deflector so it leaves a dent sometimes or other parts of the rifle as it leaves. If I shoot 223 ammo never have a dent with most loadings. With 556 ammo factory loads I get dents. I'm sure there are other causes.
