GOING TO THE GUN SHOW!!!
« on: March 03, 2004, 06:46:08 PM »
Guys:

Going to the Gun Show this weekend...and I've got that itch that needs scratching!

I'm looking for a new tin can roller.  Got plenty of Rugers and a nice target pistol or two.  Maybe a nice revolver or another semi-auto.  Something simple, rugged and easy to load...and one that loves those "milk carton" .22's!

Have you seen anything new/interesting lately?

Thanks!    ...Chris   :D

Look for an old S&W 17 without the underlug on barrel. Pinned is even better. Expect to pay in excess of $300 for a nice one but if you find it you'll have a real winner.

How do you decide?

I just returned from the local gun show and I have to say; how does one buy a gun and not see the same or better gun at another booth?  If I spotted a S&W XXX at one booth, there was the same gun with better grips or an inch longer barrel for the same price just seven booths away.  I couldn't do it.  All I needed was a holster, knife and ammo.  It was easy.  Except, there were a lot of knife booths.  I stopped comparing after a couple.

HS2, this is what I do. I walk each aisle up and down in zig-zag fashion, taking note of what's of interest to me. Then, I reverse the pattern and normally pick up several things which I missed on the first run. Then, I head back to the first-most interesting item, then second, and so forth.

Of course, if you see one that's just too good to be true, or too sweet to pass up, then you should strongly consider jumping on it. If you don't, there's a high likelyhood that someone like me will be through with his second pass and heading back for it while you're still merely sizing things up!:D

A good roller is the BuckMark, in most any configuration. Ditto one of the ten-shot 617 Smiths if you can deal with the short turn, and fast lock-up rythym of the cylinder on that version.
Rest in Peace, Mr. President.
