Never enough guns...right?
« on: June 29, 2013, 12:52:56 PM »
Having given some of my guns to my grandchildren in the last couple years, last year I found myself facing deer/bear season with a Savage 11 in .223.  Now, if that is all I had, I would have used it with little trepidation, but having some time to buy and sight in, I bought a Ruger American in .308 and a CVA .44 mag and  I have been pleased with both.  The Ruger got my buck first day of season, but I haven't used the .44 mag in earnest yet.
...But as I was saying, a man can never have enough guns, and I am blessed with a Mrs. who never questions any purchases I make.
So, last evening I went down to my local gun shop and bought an Axis Savage in .243.  This one has a somewhat unusual camo stock.
The camo is called "harvest moon", and the base color is very dark, almost black.  It has white & gray twigs running through it.  I figure it is for hunting northern coyotes in winter.. but still should do well for big game in winter.
Next, I mount a scope and I have some 100 gr Hornady interlocks and 100 gr Nosler Partitions, just waiting to be loaded..

Always exciting to get a new (or used) gun.  I too am fortunate to have a wife who understands how much I love my hobby and is always happy for me (or at least pretends to be!) when I buy another gun.

Of course I do the same when she buys another pair of shoes or another kitchen gadget - I guess that's what makes it all work!

I don't have a Ruger American or a Savage Axis, but both seem to be a very good value and from what I've read almost everyone who has them loves them.

I've had more than enough to suit my needs and have for a lot of years.  Nowadays I try to suit my wants and the wants and needs of my kids and grand-kids.  Have inherited quite a few in recent months and been distributing some of them and some of mine along with them through the family.  It's OK.  I'll find more treasures I can't live without.

Sounds like at least some of us are blessed with ladies in our lives who actually get it.  I really feel blessed when I come in with something new or different and hear a positive response.  Can't imagine living any other way. 8)

I'm old enough to have enough.  I like 'em all, but have no use for another.  In fact, I have too many.  I have several that have no use other than big game hunting, but I've only used one of them for the past several seasons.  And I don't know why I have so many concealed carry options.  Just need one.  I'd rather spend my money on cornbread fixin's and ice tea and stuff for someone else.  And ammo if I could find some.

I've had plenty of guns over the years, but I have passed most of them on down to grandkids.  #1..I wanted them to have some proven guns..and #2..i guess that leaves room in the locker for more guns. ;) ;D   Each time I figure..as with for instance, my Anschutz .22 mag, Marlin 336, Marlin 39, Marlin 60 & 7000 etc, etc.."I won't need this gun anymore".. but soon I have to "fill that niche"... ;)
Actually, I have quite a bit just laying in the bank, and with the Obama-nation, cash will be eaten up with inflation, so I have to get some tangibles..
