Lidocain patches for back pain...
« on: July 01, 2013, 12:39:55 AM »
 Anyone else here tried them?

Once or twice a year for ~20 years I've been prescribed vicodin for severe back pain. Was recently prescribed a patch (Lidoderm) that works very well without the side effects of vicodin. They numb the painful area without numbing my brain.

Lidocaine is mostly for topical pain relief. It might help, if you have a lot of recruitment pain associated with the back injury. Mostly it's for things like shingles. The outermost part of your spine is a good 1 1/2" deep. The lidocaine is not likely to penetrate that far, so a bulging disc or ruptured disc would not likely be affected. However, your personal response is your response--- use whatever works!
