223 cut and crown results

Just cut and and crowned two 223 barrels(16.25 and 18") during lunch with the GBO 11 degree crown reamer.  I think they came out pretty good for a first timer.

Going to show my ignorance here, but got to ask about the specialness of the 11 degree crown versus what typically comes on the various factory barrels.  My Vanguards for example have a rounded type of crown.  I am guessing similar to the factory crown from H&R.  What is hoped to be gained from a different crown profile?

NOTHING really ;)  Just looks and what folks prefer. The ''crown'' is JUST the 90 degree transition form bore to muzzle. The rest is just for a little better protection OF THE crown.

Most RF barrels had the radius. I'm assuming its cheaper and faster to produce. You really don't need anything if your careful of your muzzle.

Thanks CW.  Thought maybe I was missing out on something.  Will say that I feel the non recessed 11 degree and the recessed crowns look "cooler" than the "common" radius crown.  Guess mostly because it is different and usually only seen on rifles that have received some extra work.

Inset crown also protects the crown from dings.
