I think what Swampy should have said was: My wife's dad, gave her a car. ;)

In the beginning she was afraid to drive it but now she is driving it quite a bit.  We mostly just use it on the weekends as it requires premium and only gets about 1/2 the mileage that our daily drivers get.  Hopefully when it warms up we can put the top down.

My son likes his SL500 but he got his the old fashioned way.  He earned it.  Good solid 160+mph 2 seater car.

Premium fuel is hype.....if it doesn't knock on 87 then use it.  I run a Lexus 400 SC on regular.  I will run a tank of premium thru it about every 6 months.

We didn't ask for it.  To tell the truth I'd have soon not had it.  We can't really sell it and we don't really need it.  The mileage is terrible but I never look a gift horse in the mouth.  The supercharger is the reason it requires premium.  I sounds like a diesel on regular.

I had a red Mazda Miata a few years back.  I loved that little car but where I live, having to store it 7 months so I could drive it for 5, just didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Well buddy if you made it through the unnatural cold snaps of this year then you won't have a bit of worry there. That area and just to the east of you seems like some of the greenest country in the US when Spring hits.

my dad did me one better. He bought me my first car at 16. A 64 buick special that was brush painted and had the gas tank in the trunk because it was so rotten. he payed 50 bucks for it. Didnt know it at the time but he claimed he did that it was just a life lesson. My two best friends were a year older then me and allready drove and owned fairly nice muscle cars. My car was a joke compared to theres and it kicked me in the but and i quit the part time job i had pumping gas for my dads buddy and got a job with one of the jobbers cutting pulp wood. 6 months later i bought my first car a 69 440 gtx/
Dad gave me $20 and said if that was not enough get a job... ;D

cousin i grew up with had a 65 cutlass with a 389 and 2 speed auto. He did some work on his motor and i have to admit while i didnt like the 2sp it went respectably.

swampy i have to admit im a muscle car kind of guy and dont like imports a whole lot but that little supercharged benz is a pretty cool car. Id bet it would give some of the muscle cars of my day a good run in the quarter. Id bet youll find it a ball to drive. Id like to have it myself right up to the point something breaks on it and id have to pay for repairs. Nice thing is that unlike some other imports those benzs are stone reliable cars and will run reliably for many many miles.

about 7 or 8 years ago my father got in a small fender bender with 78 F150 and decided he was too old to drive it.  The insurance company totaled it for only $400 in body damage.  I suppose they thought it was too much trouble to screw with.  He bought it back for around $50 and gave it to me.  It had 68k miles on it then and I've put another k58 miles on it.

I put a new radiator in it right off.  It's a bait and switch model, basic farm model truck with deluxe trim, automatic trans, Power steering, power brake with a 300cid 6 and high gearing.   It has all the stuff to get people on the lot then not like it when they test drive it in town.  Anyway the radiator was way to small and it always over heated with the least provocation so I put in a the biggest triple core radiator made for a F150.  Later on I put in a MSD ignition that I bought for but never used on a sports car I used to have.   Then I had to rebuild the transmission about 25k miles back so while it was down I had a shift kit put in.  It's not good for hauling big loads but it gets around 20MPG on the highway and has sufficient torque for carrying a big motorcycle with out being bogged down.

For a free truck, it's been a winner...

Tony
