What is your favorite gun that you really want???
« on: May 02, 2003, 12:05:10 PM »
If you had some extra cash and could buy any gun you wanted(just one) what would it be??                                         BigBill

This is kind of tough I like so many like the G43 German 8MM is a semi-auto, the 1919a which is a 308 belt fed semi-auto (30cal machine gun) that would look great deer hunting with 5rds But Mr Game Warden its only 5rds? just kidding, the "Browing BAR" comes to mind too its really the love of my life next to the misses/kids. Just one more than I quit thats it. (maybe) Its tough i look at the price tag then figure out how many cheaper guns i could buy?? The less dollars we spend the more toys bought?

I began to type a different answer, and then realized this is the military forum, and you're probably talking about a military firearm.

The number one would probably be a battery of 4.9 inch QF naval rifles as were found on our Tribal Class destroyers in WWII.  Those things were so effective that 2 Canadian destroyers managed to take a German battleship out of the war.

If you're talking about a personal weapon, I sure like to be able to try out an AK47.

I'd go with the Barrett M82A1 too for non-class 3 guns. If this includes class 3 it would be a toss up between an MG-42 or H&K 21E.

A Norwegian Model 1894 Krag-Jorgensen
in 6.5mm With all the "Goodies" that were issued with it!

Or a Dutch Model M95 No.1 Colonial Carbine in 6.5mm

Or a Winchester Model 1895 lever in 7.62x54R
(Russians used them in WW I and WW II)

Or a Swiss SIG SK46 Semi-Auto 7.5mm (looks almost just
   like their K31 Bolt action)

Or a ------

Or a -------

i like rick's answer but for me i want an 7.92 mm MG42. i'll probably never get to even touch one but man that would be fun. realisticlly i think that a dragunov or krag jorgensen is what i want the most.

I don't know why I didn't mention it in my above post but I got ONE of my long time favorite guns on Friday. A Swedish AG42b. Still doesn't compare to the Barrett 50 or MG-42. It IS realistically affordable though and one I've been wanting. Does that count?

An M1941 Johnson in as-issued condition.

I thought about this and considered that I might want something with a history, something that someone relatively famous had carried. But really something like that should be in a museum. For me, personally, just give me something relatively rare and, while oddball, not one-of-a-kind.

If it could be ANY kind of surplus gun I'd like the one that was on an original MkI German Tiger and unlimited ammo of course.

Other than that an original 1903 Rod bayonet model would be nice.
Or maybe an original 1892 U.S. Krag.
An FG42 would be cool too!

Now that you have this one you need a Egyptian Hakim its big brother only because you can shoot it more cheaper 8mm ammo.  BigBill

Some of these at shows here are around $300 and under I paid $295 for my third hakim.

Military -
1.  The .30 carbine my Dad carried in WWII.  After starting out as the squad BAR man, he got to love that carbine.
2.  The K98 Mauser my Dad "liberated" and brought back home.  He gave it away when I was a kid.
3.  A prime (High number) '03 Springfield.

 Non-military - a Steyr K95 Stutzen in .308

My wants nearly match Cementmans.

1. The m1 carbine full auto with the 50 round mag my Father carried across Europe, he spoke of the effective suppressing fire from this rifle.
2. The 98k he liberated with the shrapnel in the stock.
3. Tommy gun.

He is gone now yet he lives forever through his great deeds.

Cheesehead,
Interesting how close we match.  My Dad passed away 19 years ago.  Miss him every day.  He was in the 28th Infantry Division.  I did have a Tommy gun, so to speak.  When the American Historical Foundation started with their commemorative models I believe their first one was the Thompson - in semi-auto configuration of course.  I purchased #156. That was probably around 20 years ago.  I didn't keep it long.  With kids and a mortgage it didn't take me long to wonder what the world I bought that thing for.
I hunt deer in NW Wisconsin - Clam Lake, Moose Lake, Radisson, and spend a lot of time on the Chippewa Flowage.  You are fortunate to live up there!

My pick would be an M14, preferably a match grade.

I'd buy a pristine Germen Luger that came off an officer and had the paper work to prove it. I've wanted one of those since I was a kid during the 2nd world war. But they are priced way out of line, and are about as useful as a broken leg when it comes to hunting.

Hi All,

Although built commercially as a sporting rifle, officers had to supply their personal weapons so a Ross Model E or Model E which are chamered in .303. The ultimate of course is a Model 1910 or 10 in .280 Ross :P

The C1A1 would be " the" rifle for this fella . The M14 would make me a happy camper too.
