Found a 157 "Mannlicher" in 30-30
« on: February 04, 2014, 03:03:21 AM »

Found a nice AZ-prefix 157 in 30-30 with a Mannlicher style fore end this past week.  There's no rust, and only a few finish chips in on the furniture.  Bore is mint.

After a sighting shot, I chased a 3 lb plastic coffee can around the 100 yd berm this past Sunday afternoon during a 38F heat wave, four hits for four shots, open sights, offhand, using 150 gr Remington factory rounds as a benchmark.  Perfectly acceptable practical accuracy potential.

I don't see these every day, and thought I'd share.

Noah

Great find!  I've had several Model 158 30-30's, all very nice shooters, but never a Model 157.  Keep us up to date on its performance.

I have one, and the only thing I really don't like about it, is the cheap plastic "Hardward" on the forestock

really "uglifies" it

I hope to shoot it this summer
