Like most everyone, when I sell something online I wait for payment to arrive before shipping. But really, why should a seller do that?
The buyer and I have agreed to exchange an item for a certain dollar amount; the item has been determined to be of equal value to the payment in both of our minds. That being the case, shouldn't one ship the item as soon as a deal is struck/auction ends?
I know it's "standard procedure" to wait until payment is received before shipping, but why should the buyer be the party assuming most of the risk associated with such a transaction - sending his money off to who knows where - in the hope that the guy on the other end will be on the up-and-up?
I've only dealt with one person over my 15 years of online transactions who deviated from the "pay first" model. He's a guy named Denny (Brnoman on Rimfirecentral) who sells CZ and BRNO items. When I contacted him some years back about some parts, he responded "Okay, I'll send you the parts. If you like them, send $xxx. If not, you can return them."
I was taken aback. "Really? How do you know I'll pay you?"
He responded, "I don't. I'll send the parts and hope that you do."
