One question I have had is:

after you send your Handi in and get the new barrel,

are you able to change the two barrels by yourself ?

or do you have to send it back again?
this would be the 45-70 Handi, it also sells as a 22 Hornet.

thanks.

Change them your self in a minute. Just remove forearm screw and forearm and break down gun. Barrel comes off, instasll other barrel and reinstall forearm.

It's just like BBF said, takes just a minute.  This works the same with any barrel NEF will fit on it.  Plus when you mount scopes, they mount on the barrel so when you change barrels the scope goes with it and if you don't beat it up in storage it stays zeroed too.  Take the gun and barrels to the range abd zero in 3 or 4 guns all at the same time.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

H&R fits the barrel to your receiver and not the other way around.  Any mods are done to the receiver end of the barrel.  They do not modify the receiver.

The only way I would buy a used barrel is if it were really cheap and I could try it on my receiver to make sure it locks up tight. Would not buy one of the net unless the seller would let you try it first. But that just my 2 cents

I agree with BBF on the last part and make sure that it locks up tight...But, even if the barrel is cheap I would not opt for it.  You don't know for sure where it has been or how it was treated.  It's worth my peace of mind to send the gun back to H&R to make sure it is done right and with a new barrel.

Has anyone ever seen a barrel that did not fit right?

I sure haven't.  Me and my buddies learned years and years ago that any of the NEF or H&R's would swap back and forth, before we ever heard anything about them being the same company.
....make it count

To all who have sent in for a barrel:

Do they contact you when your receivers gets there?  If not do you sit and hope they made it?  Can I cal customer service to confirm this?

Thank you for the help.

Mr. Bubba, like BBF said they mail you a card, got mine about 3 weeks after the receiver arrived there. They don't mind you calling and checking. As a matter of fact, right after I sent mine, for .357/.44 barrels, we found out the .357 mag. was being dropped as a complete rifle. Naturally I was concerned so I called them up and was assurred I would get my .357 barrel. If you have concerns, shoot give 'em a call.

When you mail it off, if you pay 50 or 75 cents for delivery receipt confirmation, you can verify receipt online.

I got a chuckle when the sent me a receipt confirmation post card (which took a couple weeks).  The "date received" was several days before I actually sent it!

Whole process took 5 weeks including shipping (Jan 2nd to Feb 5th).

I sent mine UPS, they have a 'tracking' feature on their website that's free. Told me when it arrived and who received it.
