http://www.history.com/shows/the-curse-of-oak-islandI recall the 1965 Readers Digest article describing the so-called "Money Pit" of Oak Island and past efforts to recover whatever may be buried on the island.
2 brothers have bought 90% of the island. They have millions invested. Their quest seems to be more about getting answers then simple treasure hunting. They are organized and seem scientific & hi-tech about the methodology of their search.
Some interesting information about Oak Island
Smiths cove is man-made.
There is coconut fiber @ the bottom of Smiths cove.
The pit has a succession of oak & Spruce platforms at various levels. Oak is not indigenous to the island.
On one level, links of gold chain were found.
The triangular swamp on the island seems to be man-made.
The box-drain, water-trap tunnels are man-made.
This speaks of real engineering ability, expense, travel of great distances, possible use of slave labor.
All this was done in an era (prior to 1795) when hard work was strictly a "by hand" process.
This reality show appeals to those who know some history and use their heads for more then a hat-rack. We tend to be a bit discriminating!
The season finale is this week. Like most new reality programs, the network orders 6 or 7 episodes in the beginning. Then, ratings will determine if's renewed. I hope it is renewed. I am really interested to find out what's on the island.
