Free wood = good wood. Just be aware that the pallet was made of minimally seasoned air dried wood. It needs to sit a while in the shop to stabilize and finish drying out. Oh, and a broken off nail can ruin your day when you find it with the planer- guess how I know.

And wood used for pallets is not the best grade wood either...... I have used some for small projects but would be careful on larger stuff.....

I made some nice projects from pallet wood...  no idea why they used such nice stuff...  the rest was cut to 16" & fed into the stove.  I'm lying...  I found a way to make a cat walk out of cut up pallets to make a path through the swamp (at my ex's place).  At the far side was our manure dump which doubled as a backstop for my shooting range.  Gave new meaning to 'shooting the sh*t!'  The rest was cut to 16".

this is not pallet wood, it is kiln dried white oak from our plant in london canada.  and lived in the plant for years in storage before i got it, great stuff, i got tired of buying red oak from the hardware store.

well looks like we are in for some more snow,

Sounds better all the time. Be careful tomorrow and try to avoid Atlanta.

The local Walmart gets christmas trees packed in 5-6 foot rough cut oak 2x4s every year. I've been picking up 10-12 boards every year and air drying them in the shop. Free wood is good wood

When ever I find a place where there is free wood, some DA is scarfing it up to saw up for the stove. Wouldn't matter if it were 12X12 bolts of walnut. Some DA would be cutting it up for fire wood.
