It looks to be in mint condition. I still wouldn't pay that much for it. I can't wait to read Spanky's response when he sees it. ;D

Thanks, Dinny

Gentleman,

Other folks are beginning to see the value of our favorite toys.  I expect the prices of the old classics to increase, and them to actually become collectors items.  Compared to the imports they really are of greater value.  Made in USA also counts with some.  Besides, it's very nice looking and probably shoots well.

No it's not me bidding.

Here we go again... this is a perfect example of what happens when you have idiots paying over 300 bucks for barrels on other auction sites. The way prices are nowadays my 32-20 Handi must be worth at least 1000 bucks... maybe even 1500. ::)
Matter of fact if you put the word "rare" in an ad for any Handi it automatically makes it worth triple... ;)
I sure do miss the old days.

$40 shipping and if you figure a $20 transfer fee and the buyer has over $700 in it.  My bet is the buyer is a 22 Jet cartridge collector and figured he never see another H&R rifle in that condition.

I used to think I wanted one then I changed my mind and sold the dies I had accumulated.  Now I'm sure I don't want one.  Now way in hell I'd pay that much for a rifle in that caliber.

"hey guys, I just paid $700 for this neat .22 rifle...anybody have dies for it?"  I can hear it now

It should not surprise any of you that guns hold their value very well, in the collector realm as well as in the "shooters" realm. Is $700 excessive after all is said and done? Maybe the buyer had one his dad gave him when he was a kid and he lost it in a house fire and he is just looking to get some good memories back...who is to say why we spend what we spend on these things....if it makes us happy....or even if we THINK it will make us happy we're willing to spend the money. Just because its not worth the money to us does not mean its not worth the money.

When all the price gougers get wind of this the prices will really skyrocket. ::)  Everything will suddenly become "rare as hens teeth" and instantly worth at least double what it was yesterday. Guys will be saying "if you think my price is high just take a look at what so and so got for his"  Blah, blah, blah... just plain stupid.

Ufta!  It IS a pretty little piece, but that's a whole lot of money to pay for a Topper.  Can anyone make out the serial number prefix so we can get a manufacturing date on that puppy?  With the date we should be able to get a close approximation of the original price.

I can't make out the serial #.  As I recall the last Jet's were made mid 70's.

BBGV says the M158 Topper 30/Topper Jet was made in 22 S&W Jet in 1963 only, and in an M158 Topper combo 22 Jet/20ga 1968-75. Might just could be an accessory barrel too.
