Yeah, I know, but with gas closing in on $3.50 a gallon, Lacey is a looong ways away, with a round trip of 225 miles, gas would cost about $30, I think I'd rather pay shipping without tax. I know, what fun would that be!! :D

Tim

In KC we pay about $2.65/gal, don't know why we are so much lower then the national average. I went from a 20/22 mpg van to a 13.5mpg city Durango...however on cruise control I can squeeze out 18.6 mpg at 62.5 mph. So yeah, gas is a sore point with me until I get my van back.

Breakdown Gun Case for Handi's
« Reply #33 on: June 09, 2011, 05:31:00 AM »
I know there was a thread a while ago, on where to get a breakdown gun case for Handis.  I just found this ad from SG.  Looks like it will fit the job, and the price isn't too bad.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

I thought my 2 rifle case was posted here, but I didn't find it, anyway this is what I used for carrying multiple barrels before I went to dedicated frames for all my Handis, an ADG double rifle case, it will easily handle 4 barrels and a frame, I paid ~$80 for it locally several years ago.

I know, I'm a dink.  All mine are complete rifles and go in a regular rifle case.  Seriously, I have seen folks using modified brief cases or small suit cases with added foam lining and other commercial cases.  I might add, all mine are transported unloaded as per the law.  But there is a butt stock cartridge holder on them with ready ammo.  That might not be quite legal everywhere. ::)

northkid,

I carry my spare barrels on spare frames with spare stock sets in spare gun cases. ::) ;D   I gave up on the switch barrel Handi a long time ago, but for many they work great.  I think Tacklebury may be along soon to sing the virtues of swap barrel H&Rs. ;)

I too gave up on the switch barrel routine years ago.  To me, it was more trouble than it was worth.  Added to that, the rifle I needed at the moment was stashed away in pieces.  Now, they're sighted in and ready to go.  The ones in my "Ready Service" rack are loaded too.  If I need a 400 yard shot on a coyote, I'd probably grab the .22-250 or .243.  A woodchuck at 300, I might use a .45-70 for giggles.  Anything at 200 is fair game for any of them, maxi, .30-30. .356, etc.

Been wondering the same thing myself. Have quite a few barrels and just a few receivers. I have been thinking about making one out of canvas or denim with a liner with several sewn in barrel pockets that could be rolled up and tied or maybe use velcro to close it up with.

I use an extra NEF Versa-Pack case.  Holds the butt stock/receiver and three 22 inch barrels, rifle or shotgun.  About as compact as you can get.

I found a case for a paintball gun at Academy Sports that will hold three barrels if you seperately wrap them, along with one stock and receiver.  There are others listed I believe in the stickies at the top of this page.

I use a rifle case made for holding two scoped rifles. I lay one complete rifle in it and the extra barrels in the empty spots. I allready had it and it works. Rick!

I think for only 3 barrels, a case like the one Hoyt Cannon had made for his nickel & s/s set is probably more fitting.  I'm making a case designed to hold 9 barrels, 2 receivers, 2 stock sets, a cleaning kit and some adapters and small parts.  I have a matching smaller case which is for ammo carrying and allows at least one box of ammo for each barrel.  8)  I'm using Samsonite suitcases stripped of their lining and with HDPE foam layered in to protect everything.  This type from Bulldog with the cut to fit foam is probably sized closer to what you are seeking.  Also, if you watch harbor freight they often get hard sided cases with cut to fit foam, although I don't see any there at the moment.  8(

This all weather one from the Sportsmans Guide would likely work well also.  ;)

For only 29.95, Rossi also makes a couple 3 barrel cases depending on the length you want:

If you want to hide them in the open I suggest this.  Pick up as many gun socks as you need from Walmart.  Order one of the extra large canvas tote bags from Lands End, it will hold the 22" barrels.   If you really want to hide them order a feminine color.  Should have plenty of room for ammo and a simple cleaning kit.

I merged this discussion with the existing FAQs topic to keep all ideas in one place. I've got no new ideas since I keep all of my barrels on their own frame, if I want more than one chambering with me, I carry each one in its own soft case or broke down in an archery arrow locker.  8)

I have the original carrying case that came with my chrome combo, 30-30/20gauge.  The receiver says "Model 258" on one side and "H & R Handy Gun II" on the other.  I purchased this combo in the very early 1980s when I decided that my son was mature enough to have a gun while deer hunting with me and no longer had to be just a spectator.

The case appears identical to that of the OP, complete with the Red Head tag.  Heavy canvas with a nylon lining and zipper.

The 30-30 barrel has been responsible for numerous deer kills by numerous kids.  My son eventually graduated to another rifle.  We loaned the combo to a friend so that his grandchild could hunt.  We got it back several years later and my neighbor needed it for his daughter.  He kept it to also use for his young son.  I finally got it back a couple of years ago.  It will not leave my care again, for any reason other than my own grandchildren if I have any.

I like the 20 gauge full choke barrel for squirrel hunting.  I have a nice Weaver K-6 on the rifle and have sighted it in for critter control around the house and for hog hunting.  There is something about the style of that receiver and rifle barrel that makes it very nice to handle.  Nothing else handles quite as well.  It is far more handy than the current "Handy Rifles".
