i remember someone telling me onve that there was a conversion around that made 1911's acceptable for SASS competition. how does it work?

I don't think so. In some CAS matches there are Wild Bunch shoots based on the movie "The Wild Bunch". In this side match 1911 pistols are used as well as 1897 shotguns, but they have to be stock. SASS rules state that for MAIN match pistols the gun must be a SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER, either made before 1899 or a copy or "clone". No autos are allowed.

i remeber where i saw it it was a chart for weaver bases and under springfield aroury it had 1911 SASS conversion. could have been a misprint because it really don't sense know that i think of it. the only way to make a auto fire SA that i can think of is that the slide has to be manually operated for each shot, and have no idea how a conversion like that would be accomplished

The SASS conversion that you're talking about was a single shot pistol adapter that mounted to a 1911 frame. This converted the 1911 into a break action, rifle caliber pistol.

The SASS, in this case, I believe stood for Springfield Armory Single Shot.
