Will changing trigger spring reduce trigger pull weight?

probably should have asked this on the rimfire forum, but thought I'd get more feedback, here.  I have a H&R Sportster, that Isquirrel hunt with.  It has a very clean/crisp trigger pull, but the pull is at 5 1/2 lbs.  As opposed to stoning, can the spring be changed to reduce the trigger pull weight?  I'm not much on doing my own gunsmithing, and to stone the trigger, my smith wants more than I want to put in it.  Was wondering if a softer spring would help.  Wolf makes springs for the topper, but does anybody out there make a softer spring, and would it help?  May be a dumb question, but wondered what you boys would suggest?

Softer springs may be available, but I just cut two coils off the factory trigger spring when I do a trigger job, have done it on about 40 frames, start with one and see how it works for you. Wolff makes single coil hammer springs for modern H&R/NEFs too, they just call em Toppers.

Tim,  do those topper springs fit all H&R receivers?  Does cutting two coils off reduce the trigger pull weight?

Wolff only lists single and double coil hammer springs for H&Rs, they list only "Topper" springs for rifles, but the single coil are for ALL H&Rs with a transfer bar, double coil are for vintage pre-transfer bar(<1978) rebounding hammer H&R Inc guns. Yes, it helps reduce pull weight, but I've never done it without doing a complete hone as shown in Perklos trigger hone instructions in the FAQs.
