Pretty wood, looks good.

Thanks O.F.!!  Its getting better too!!  ::) :D ;D

I put the fourth coat on this AM and at noon I was able to steel wool it down for the second time. Its real smooth, I don't think I will need many more coats.

Then I put on the fifth coat. It was dry enough for these pics tonight. Looking REAL GOOD NOW!!

I think one more coat, so should be don't tomorrow. Then about a week to harden and I can go shoot it!!

CW, that is one nice stock set you got yourself there. I like the way you did the work, wow. Take that one hunting and dazzle the critters until you get them into the position you want before you shoot, works for me. Take care, John.
It's not what you do, but how you do what you do, that counts.

The stock is all done, I gave it two additional coats and its came out very nice. I was gonna tone it back to matte, but decided to leave it nice n shiny!!   ;D ;D ;D

CW;

You used Tung oil? I did the same last year with a Rossi Rio Grande 45-70. Took about 14 coats. You had one heck of a nice piece of wood!!

I wanted to, but mine was dried up... I used TRU_Oil on this one.

I think checkering really takes away from the beauty of wood.

I'd have sanded 'er smooth, then finished it with oil.

that is a real nice piece of wood...  (too bad the checkering is hiding so much of it!)

you did a real bang up job on the finish.

Some of the aftermarket companies make some nice looking stock for the Handi's .Any one here use any of these replacement stocks .  How did it work out?

I love my Boyd's thumbhole.  Been many using Gunstocks, Inc. too though and he has nicer wood if you don't like the lams.  8)

How did you apply the finish--rag, foam brush, fingers?

Well done, and it does look a "mile deep"!

THANK YOU!!  :D :D :D

Always with my fingers. ;)  After all these years, and all the stocks I have done, I'll bet they will be on this earth a LONG time after me.  :o ;D ::) ;)

Actually this is the first time I ever did one with rubber gloves. I was nicer and did seem to produce a better finish. (Exam gloves I should say)
