Stevens side lever "Crackshot" ??

Anybody know anything much about this rifle?  It is a model 16 I believe.

  I have one with a smooth bore barrel.  They were made from approx. 1900 to 1913 and we're considered a boys rifle. Everything about them is small and somewhat fragile and not very reliable.  The early models had a top thumb operated safety that didn't work very well and after a few years Sttevens just did away with the safety.
 They origanally sold for about $ 3.50 and most of the have something wrong or broken on them.  The design of the breech block is very small and weak and would not hold up to today's hi speed 22 rim fire shells.
They are cute little rifles and any young boy or girl would have thought they had the world  by the a$$ if they owned one.  I am sure plenty of birds , squirrels , rabbits ect. We're taken with these.
 I have several of these boys rifles in falling block and rolling block actions and the Stevens is about the most entry level example of this type of rifle.

Ol BW, i replied to the other post.  I was wondering, maybe Jedman can fill in more.  I have a crackshot #16 now and a Rem #4.  I really like the old single "boys rifles".  I have my eyes out for any of the Stevens Favorites, and a Rem #6.  What others should I keep my eyes out for.  Maybe a Quackenbush, or a Hopkins and Allen.  Not sure if the H&A qualifies as a boys rifle?

BW, Got it home and into the shop.  Took her apart and found a wonderful case harden finish on the receiver.  Had to do something with the stock.  At some point in its life some had scratched their name in the side, then another owner desided to scrape it off with what apeared to be a dull butter knife.  Would have been fine with the name, shows the life she lead.  most of the rest of the stock finish looked as it had baked in the sun for more than a few years.  So I took the finish and stain off with 220 grit and will restain it in the morning.  For a rifle that started life for about $3.50 they sure did allot of machine work.  Will post picks when she is back together.

Hey looks good!  I don't know what if anything to do to the finish on mine, at this point it looks more like it's been "browned" or rust blued rather than blued.  I don't know what the original finish was.

the frame was case hardened, a little oil and #0000 steel wool cleaned it up.  The barrel looked blued
