They're good guns. I've owned a few of them and they've all been good shooters.

If you get it I know you'll enjoy it.  Bought one last spring, wood stocked-you know how I dislike synthetic.  After I got healed up from the back surgery been playing with it, mainly with a Lyman 429244 that I made a plug for so it's a WFN now.  Shooting 'em PP with some 2400, shows much promise but haven't settled on a load yet.  GW

Jealous!  My Dick's only has the 280 on clearance for $200!
After reading this thread, I called and was going to go down and get a 357 or 44 if they had one.  Put it back and get them reamed and barrel cut.
Still might just pick this rifle up and part out the barrel and send it in for a factory fitted barrel.

Good luck with your 44mag!

The sale must only be at certain Dicks. Mine was $279 but after a 10% discount for opening up a accaout with them it was $265 out the door. Went to he gunshow and the price of 44 ammo was interesting. $60 for a box of Rem 50 rounds, $26 for a 20 round box of the brand I don't remember. $35 for a box of Mag Tech sjhp 50 rounds. For the scope I am going to use my Bushnell 2.5x32. Now to get it to the range.

I ask the salesman at ours how long the 444 would be on sale at $199. He said as far as he knew that is the price for them now. Not sure if he's correct or not but it's making hard not to buy one.

If it wasn't for the factory trigger vs a customized one on the 45-70 I'd prefer the 44 Rem.

Lefty

All three barrels were bobbed to 18" and crowned... the .30/30 & 7.62 were threaded to 5/8X24 TPI and the Ross Schuler CM muzzlebrakes were tapered back to match the barrel diameter... then hot bath blued to match the barrel finish... they handle very nicely... I can shoot almost as accurately with the peep sighted .44 at 100 yards as I can with the others with the Mueller Multi-Shot scopes...

Part swapping won't work as the transfer bar was removed on one and I've had my share of opening up of things with hidden contents to have little springs and gadgets suddenly being propelled into never to be located places to even try it myself.

One of my favorite item was a Rem. Nylon 66. :o

If you are adverse to taking things apart until really needed, and you have an SB-2 frame, the quick&dirty (not really dirty, but you get it) way to improve the trigger is to get some slickum into the hammer notch and sear via the back end.
Drop the buttstock, and even the forestock and barrel if you really want it all easy to manipulate.
Peer down into the works from the holes in the rear of the frame with GOOD light and located the 'line' across the back of the hammer (with hammer down), that is the hammer notch that the sear on the tip of the trigger sets into when cocked.
I like to use one of those spray electrical contact cleaners with the tube like a WD-40 can to get down there and lightly spray off the notch. It flushes off gunk and dries quickly.
Then using your favorite slickum (I have S&W's high content teflon) get a drop right onto that notch. This might be tricky but can be done.
Work the hamer back and release the trigger, dampening the hammer fall. Do this about a dozen times to 'work the lube into the surfaces.
You trigger should be better, sometimes A LOT better.
Button up and go shooting.
