How does the Maverick 88 hold up over time?
« on: February 13, 2014, 03:44:22 AM »
The title sums up my question.  I see plenty of reviews online from people who just bought their Maverick pump shotgun and love it.  Swell.  I'd like to hear from some people who have had one for a long time and put a bunch of shells through it.  How has it held up over time?  The Maverick has more plastic than the 500, does that effect long term durability and function?

i've had mine for a long time.
(20+ maybe ? - i've forgotten)
never had any problems so far.
it's a great firearm for what i
paid for it. the plastic trigger
group is a non-issue as far as
durability. i would think they've
been saying that about the handi's
forever plus 2 days. very easy
to detail strip and clean.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I bought an old well used maverick a few years ago. it was one with no vent rib and only 1 slide arm from the pump into the receiver. hunted with it for awhile and it worked/shot fine. since it was my first maverick I didn't see any issues. one day I decided to take it apart to clean it. it was so full of dirt, leaf material, oil build up, powder residue, I couldn't believe it. and it still worked great. once clean and put back together it worked with almost no effort to pump the action. I should have kept it cause it was a light carrying gun. but I traded it because I wanted vent rib and choke tubes. got a 20 and a 12 maverick now. good guns i'd say
every day is a gift. use it well
