I have a chance to get a new Summit Viper Ultra XLS at a good discount. Is anyone familiar with it, are they a good climber?

They are an excellent stand. Easy to backpack and quiet in cold weather as well as quiet to set up. Just make sure you get plenty sleep the night before you hunt, or else you might find yourself sleeping instead of hunting. They are mighty comfortable.

If you are a gun hunter, the Viper Ultra XLS is perfect, and if you bowhunt, you can buy the top for the Cobra model seperately which will make it an open front bowhunting stand.

Another very happy Summit owner and user. They are one of the lightest, quietest, most comfortable climbers available. Very stable even when standing to one side and they bite very good even on the smoother barked trees. They do cause you to get very relaxed and sleepy sometimes.......not like those little loc ons that have a seat big enough for about 1/2 of one cheek :eek:

I have 2 summit stands one is a cobra and the is an old sabre. both nice stands. The cobra is a dream to set up even in the dark. No pins or knobs to lose. I do reccomend that you practice with the safty harness that is supplied with the stand, it is a little complicated at first. Or get the new vest type.

best stand for the money!

I bought 2 Vipers last summer, one for me and one for my son. It is an excellent stand. Very stable and quiet. I have even cocked my crossbow while sitting in it. You wont be disapointed.

I don't own or use a Summit, but I fellow in my club has a Summit, as well as a Featherlite Cherokee, and has let me use both. The Summit is excellent, but the FL Cherokee is unreal. They are about the same price, a little less for the FL, but the adjustment feature on the FL Cherokee is so much easier to use. You can't really go wrong with a Summit, but you should give the Featherlite Cherokee a look see before purchasing.

Me? I'm a cheapskate, I use a Hunter's View Hawk climber. $99 at Wally World! :grin:

I have a viper etream and love it. for me it is a little narrow during the winter with my insulated clothing on.

I have the Summit Goliath. I would never consider any other. I have tried several different climbers, none have come close to Summit.

Can / will you tell me the inside diameter of the top part of the stand?
and the size of the base.

I am considering buying the Goliath top and use the climber from my viper. I need to know how much bigger it is over my stand and how it will stack together tight with the bottom of my viper.

RickyP...I believe that the Goliath climber comes from the factory with the Viper base.

I have a Summit Viper Extreme XL that I purchased 4 years ago. I love it...Safe, stable and light weight...I liked it so much that I purchased a Cobra XLS top half to work with my Viper bottom. I wanted the Cobra top to make me more flexible when bow hunting.

I love my extream as well but I am about 220 lbs and when I put on my insulated hunting clothes I find I have very little room in the seat part. I am thinking about the Goliath to give me the extra room

rickyp, I know what you mean about needing bigger. I am very happy with my Summit Goliath. I have fallen to sleep in it after a lond day of hunting.

I've thought about the Goliath because I am 6'3" and I weigh 235 but I seem to be ok with the Viper. Sometimes it seems like I need more leg room but I adjust that by raising the upper portion of the stand. Luckily I am not wide at the hip...More at the shoulders and a little in front. Maybe that is the reason that I am ok with the Viper. Of course when I bought the viper I was about 200 lbs. Darn desk jobs... :wink:
