Biggest load/bullet for 15" 22-250
« on: March 03, 2004, 02:38:41 AM »
I am hand loading for my 15" 22-250.  Currently I am loading 50gr nosler w balistic tips and having great luck.  I am looking for a larger bullet, posibly something for deer sized game.  What is the heaviest bullet this barrel can stabilize and shoot accurately?  Have any of you had luck with a bigger bullets?

If you absolutely must hunt deer with a .22 cal. I would suggest Barnes 53 gr. Triple Shocks in your 22-250.
Where I live the minimum caliber is .243.....your local laws my vary.

Im not usually going to use it for deer, however, it the oppertunity arises with the perfect shot it would be fun.  Thats why I want a good heavy accurate load.  Serria is now making 65gr balistic tips that they claim are good for deer but I dont know it the 15" bbl will stabalize that heavy of a bullet.

I have been looking at factory 22-250 loads because my father wants to shoot them in his rifle for deer.  What I have found is a Federal 55 Gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaw, and a Hornady 60 Gr soft point.  I also saw somewhere that Remington was going to be loading the 60 grain Nosler partition in 22-250 - I think this would be my 1st choice, but I have not seen any loaded ammo anywhere yet.

I've killed deer and elk with my my 22-250, 15 Encore-you must be very particular with your shot choice. To me accuracy is by far the most important consideration. Heavy bullets would not provide the best accuracy for me. I use 55gr. Sierra SPBT and IMR 4895. Velocity around 3200 fps.
