Future tanks
« on: August 06, 2020, 04:12:38 AM »
Having been a tanker, i am considerably interested in developments in the latest armored  equipment.
I am convinced that tanks in the near future will be smaller, and almost certainly, remote operated. Textron for one, has unveiled a new unit which seems quite effective.  Low silhouette, modular weapons platform.
Where today's Abrams Mark 1 has 1500 hp and 70 tons, the Textron version is 7 tons and 1600 hp. Being a hybrid, it can sneak through the woods without much of a sound pattern.

Northrup Grumman has produced a new and very effective 50mm chain gun, which with a variety of projectiles, including an armor piercing round.

When equipped with the 50mm gun, or a TOW missile launcher, with a range up to 2.3 miles, along with the new steel foam armor, reactive armor, launchable drones and Iron Dome system, it could become a challenge to anything on the field.
