How modern munitions are developed..
« on: October 22, 2021, 01:23:25 PM »
.
After serving in the USMC for 8 years...my oldest grandson wnet to work in the arms industry.  He presently works with 3 other men as weapons testers for NATO.   He also develops weaponry.

A few years ago a firm there in the complex hired him to develop special rounds for our grenade launchers.  They were on a time schedule, so couldn't wait for the auto grenade launcher such as he used in Iraq (M19) to arrive, so he started evelopments with a single load launcher he built for the purpose.

Ater tests were nearly completed . the govt launcher arrived...just in time for approval celebration.

Yes bug, the firm he worked for, bought a remote Mssouri farm to try out their developments on..

The farm had an old, tumbled down barn on it, along with an old house that needed some TLC.  One day when he went out to test his new rounds, the company CEO went with him..

When they left that day, there was no more barn or  house...  'Course he wouldn't have done that on his own.. ;D

Below...some of the rounds he produced, in his pickup bed.  Next, my grandson, celebrating approval of the rounds he developed.  The firm appreciated the fact that he had some "real time" experienced use of the grenade and it's launching system.

Of course, the new grenades had to work just aas well in shoulder fired launchers too !

Double D, thanks for the "heads up..I just assumed 40mm was closer to a cannon than a rifle..
..But now that you mention it, he is a highly qualified gunsmith, here's one of his custom jobs; a special .223 for a survivalist !

THe next photo shows the rifle he built up in iraq, for himself.  He was one of two "overwatch" (sniper) Marines for his unit.
Still limited to the .223, he being the armorer, selected parts after much testing, to build his own "Old Betsy"!  ;D

I suspect he built a similar rifle for his best friend, the other overwatch and best man at his wedding.

Oops! Sorry, the last photo won't blow up !  Don't know why..
