General Motors has built an electric 1977 Chevy K5 Blazer. Soon, you can, too.

GM

The K5 Blazer-E serves as a showpiece for GM’s upcoming Electric Connect and Cruise conversion kit that includes a battery and motor you can use to convert pretty much anything it’ll fit in into an electric vehicle.

GM

The package comes with a 200 hp/266 lb-ft electric motor based on the one in the Chevy Bolt EV, a 60-kilowatt-hour battery pack, power control unit, wiring harness and a liquid cooling system for the batteries.

Although the motor provides direct drive in the Bolt, GM hooked it up to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The company will provide training to custom car outfits interested in making the swap to customers when it goes on sale late next year at a yet to be announced price.

GM

GM said it is the first of a line of eCrate packages it plans to offer that will include high-performance versions.

GM

In 2018, GM built an electric Chevy Camaro drag car with 700 hp that could cover a quarter-mile in 9.51 seconds at 140 mph and said something like its powertrain could one day be on sale.

wonder what the range is. Wonder if the adveritize the fact that it would  take 30 hours on a 20 amp charge to charge a 60kwh battery. Cost to charge? The same as running 600 100 watt light bulbs for an hour. Or 20 100 watt lightbulbs for 30 hours. now do that a couple times a week and look at your power bill!  that is what 60kwh is and a battery just stores it it doesnt make it. You only get out (with some loss) the same as you put in. by the way that camaro is capable of two 1/4 mile passes before it needs to be charged but that is already outdated technology. But you best hope your in a two round race.  that hummer easily out does that BUT it still only will put out whats put in. Bigger batterys mean longer charging and more expensive charging. That said id sure take that blazer and slap a good crate 350 in it. I see they left some key things out like cost of the conversion that you could probably buy 2 350s and enough gas to last a 100k for and thats just for the intitial buy, you still have the actual cost to charge it and they never said what the range is when its charged. I dont understand why the new green deal obama electric car forced down our throats appeals to so many. Its not green and its sure as heck not cheaper.

Cost to charge a 60 KWH battery would be about $8.40, based on average electricity cost of 13.9 cents per KWH.

What would it cost for a tow truck to drag it home when it leaves you stranded out in BFE?

Why would anyone put that kind of money into such an old model vehicle?

one that nice should never be cut up. To hard to find rust free square bodies anymore. Im sure its a drop in the bucket to the r&d boys at chev but your proably looking at cutting up a truck worth 30k. Like i said they wont sell many K10 drop ins because there most of them are in the dump. that said if I could find one that nice stock id want it. But would prefer a short box pickup.

I like the older small Broncos with a 302 in them. Or the CJ5&7  jeeps that had a 304.

yup im probably the biggest ford hater on here but those old broncos are COOL. as were the old IH scouts and even the old toyota land cruisers. Small enough to go where a jeep can.
