My best friend & hunting buddy bought a Datsun pickup when he came back from Vietnam. He built a set of rimes welded together and put duel tires on the back. That pickup would go almost anywhere and if the did bog down we just jumped out and pushed it out of whatever it was stuck in.
And like you said, it got terrific gas mileage. Around town he would take the Dulles and put on a single read tire back on. Got even better gas mileage then.
