I had some friends from Arkansas who pronounced pecans as puk-ans...  While we are at it, why is Arkansas pronounced Arkan-saw ?   ;D

OK. I'm in (thread drift)...my Paradise on Earth and Upstate NY spouse pronounces:
"creek" as "crick" and
"elementary" (el-e-men-tar-y with no inflection in tone) as "elemen-tary" (with a hard inflection on the "tary")

Richard, I wear either walkers amphliphed headphones or the small in the ear units. When you shoot they deaden the sound but help you hear range commands or woods sounds.

If you wear a cap the headphones work better. If you wear a hat with a brim then the in the ear models are more user friendly.

Way back when I was young and thought I was tough I worked as a construction lineman. Our crew boss was a Colorado transplant and somehow one day the subject of "creek" and "crick" came up and he insisted that "crick" was not a word and was just dumb people not knowing how to pronounce "creek". After the conversation had been over with for quite sometime I walked by him, grabbed my neck, and started hollering "ow,ow,ow". He asked me what was wrong and I told him I had gotten a "creek" in my neck. He ignored me the rest of the day.

Still "hollow" and "metallic".  Stuffiness has subsided.  "Babying" my hearing at present.  Hard sided ear muffs in the stand with me at ALL times.  No wildlife participation since Saturday 11/7 and I've hunted a portion of every day, some days all day.

  Coppingthe thread for a moment...

The folks up in Massachusetts are always having to deal with people mispronouncing the name of their local lake.  Only one "expert" may have gotten it right, but who knows for sure?  I guess we will have to ask Joe Biden and AOC to give us the proper pronunciation.. uh, with Nancy's help, of course !
