I have on layaway at a local dealer a Contender in 7X30 Waters. I believe it is a newer model (screaming Cougar head and easy to open), the serial number was in the 400,000's I think. It is in excellent condition - the only marks on it I could see were near the base of the grip near the grip cap - a couple of dings in the wood. It has a weaver base, Kwik Site (I believe, can't remember) rings, and a Simmons 2X scope.
Anyone have any idea the date of manufacture and if this is a desirable model (i.e. pre fire/post fire, etc.). Also, the price on the tag was 499 but the owner made me an offer at $450. I'm thinking this may be a little on the high side given some of the recent posts about pricing on the Contender, but they are few and far between in the local shops around here.
My plan is to get a 22LR barrel as soon as some more funds appear. I'm not sure about the 7X30 Waters barrel. I have heard nothing but good about them but already have a .308 Encore pistol set-up. Hmm . . .
Thanks for all of your input,
