SpaceX is pretty well focusing on the Mars thing. Musk wants to start building a colony there within this decade.
And now he's teaming up with Jeff Bezos of Blue Origin. Thinking they might merge. You may not like it, but the space race is on again trying to stay ahead of China. Whose space program has shown to be successful.

If the spinoff tech is as good as what we got from the last space race, it's worth whatever it costs...
