He who doesn't learn history...
« on: January 28, 2021, 01:22:37 AM »
Having read nearly all of Bill O'Reilly's "killing" books, I am presently engrossed in > Killing England <, another sketch of our Revolutionary War..
There are couple things I would like to point out, that clarifies some things we see going on today..

I chapter #20,  There a picture is painted of Philadelphia under British occupation.  Of course public buildings, churches and private homes were disrespected..often being used as stables and the basements used as lavatories.
  T
Although this happens often, many may not realize is how "influential" people, game even the warfare "system".  These same influential people, have no trouble, remaining cozy with whoever occupies the area.  Some of the same people stayed at their home in Philly while the continental congress met there in Independence Hall... and when congress was driven to York by the British, they stayed on and enjoyed the Brit's night life and congeniality.

That is how a General Arnold, while recovering from wounds and planning his betrayal, met Peggy Shipton, daughter of an American Tory!
Are we not seeing the same thing today, where "influential" people are becoming very chummy with a foreign power which is bent on destroying America?

    Another point..page #228, my copy;
Washington and his army are wintering over at Morristown, NJ  ...Coldest winter on record there, and hasn't been matched since.  Troops hungry, cold etc., some even planning desertion...a few by invitation, even switched sides.
Gen Alexander Hamilton quips, in a letter to a friend..
"our countrymen have all the folly of the ass, and all the passiveness of the sheep in their compositions.  They are determined not to be free and they can neither be frightened or discouraged nor persuaded to change their resolution".

Sure sounds to me, like those today, who vote for Democrats..
"They have the guns and therefore we are for peace and for reformation through the ballot. When we have the guns, then it will be through the bullet"      (Saul Alinsky) ...hero of the left..

It has always been a hodgepodge of "patriotic levels". Comfort and convenience, verses commitment.

Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Give me liberty, or give me death

I am now watching, for the first time ever, the movie "Network" like much fiction, if you changed  a few particulars, that movie is speaking about Journalism today, especially television.
God warns, man ignores.

Beale:

But, I think that was it, fellas. That sort of thing is not likely to happen again, because at the bottom of all our terrified souls we know that democracy is a dying giant, a sick, sick dying, decaying political concept writhing in its final pain.

I don't mean that the United States is finished as a world power. The United States is the richest, the most powerful, the most advanced country in the world -- light years ahead of any other country.
And I don't mean the communists are going to take over the world, because the communists are deader than we are.

What is finished is the idea that this great country is dedicated to the freedom and flourishing of every individual in it.
It's the individual that's finished.

It's the single, solitary human being that's finished.
It's every single one of you out there that's finished.

Because this is no longer a nation of independent individuals. It's a nation of some two-hundred-odd million transistorized, deodorized, whiter-than-white, steel-belted bodies, totally unnecessary as human beings and as replaceable as piston rods.

Well, the time has come to say, "Is 'de-humanization' such a bad word?" Because good or bad, that's what is so.
The whole world is becoming humanoid -- creatures that look human, but aren't. The whole world, not just us. We're just the most advanced country, so we're getting there first.

The whole world's people are becoming mass-produced, programmed, numbered, insensate things....
