hornady v-max vs. nosler ballistic tips
« on: March 03, 2004, 04:34:44 AM »
hi guys,
just wondering which would be more explosive. I will be using them in a 22-250. Also, which weight would you recommend for a savage 12fvss? Not sure what the twist rate is on this rifle. One, more thiing, in your opinion, which are more accurate, the hornady or nosler?

Thanks alot for the info, i'm still learning.

I've honestly seen no difference in accuracy potential or explosiveness of these two varmint bullets. Both are easily capable of groups in the .2s if you and your gun are. Because of cost I usually use more V-Max than BTs.

For the .22-250 I'd go with either 50s or 55s depending on what you're barrel likes best.

I went with the Hornadys because they cost less. The Noslers have a slightly higher ballistic coefficient, but not enough to make it worth the extra money.  I also like the moly option for the Hornadys.  You can't go wrong with either one.

I shoot the 55gr VMax Moly's in my 22-250, in front of 35.5 gr  of W748. I have a Ruger 77 stainless with the standard barrel.  Shots can be covered with a dime at a 100, and it really does a number on a groundhog. I haven't tried the Ballistic tips in .22 cal, but the 55 gr BT's shoot well in my .243. I haven't got to shoot any ground hogs with it yet, waiting for them to come out of thier winter hibernation.

I went with the moly because it's for prairie dog shooting. I want to see if I can shoot for two full days without cleaning the bore.
