K-Hornet comes home...

That Ruger 77/22 Hornet that I was having chamber problems with is now home after what seemed like and insanely high repair bill.  For the most part the bill seemed reasonable but he stuck it to me for a few things that I think were to cover the work on the old barrel that he told me wasn't going to cost me since I had a new barrel installed.  He's been a stubborn old coot about things and if though it feels like it cost me an arm and a leg, I paid for the work. 

He also laser engraved the name of his business on the top of the barrel in about 1/4" high letters.  To me it looks tacky but he claims the ATF insists on it.

It's been a long while since I've shot this rifle and I had to think really hard to remember where I had stashed the brass and loaded ammo for it...  Anyway I'm going to be loading ammo for it over the next couple days and I'll finally fire form the rest of the brass I have for it.

I have a nef in 22 hornet that is awesome.  I'm thinking a k hornet would increase casa life. Lil gun is my go to powder with a Lee fcd die to crimp the thin brass.

I was up until the wee hours of the morning loading ammo for this rifle and after I got the first 3 rounds with bullets seated I tried to feed them from the mag to see how well they cycle. Well they didn't. They catch on the edge of the chamber and will go no further. These are .22 K-Hornet cases that are once fired and full length resized. At present, it will only feed rounds one at a time by hand. BTW, I went ahead and loaded 40 of the 90 cases I had prepped.

Before I go any further, I never had a feed problem with the original barrel...

This is what I've tried to solve the problem...
Thinking it didn't like the kind of blunt hollow point 45g Remington bullets, I switched to Sierra spire point of the same weight. No change,

I tried crimping the cases to see if maybe the case mouths were sticking out. Also no change.

Lastly I wanted to see if standard profile Hornet cases would feed. It turns out I only had 4 really old but unfired Hornet cases so I made up 4 dummy rounds. They wouldn't feed either.

So right now I'm pretty sure it's not my fault that it doesn't feed from the mag. I eMailed the gunsmith about it. I'm expecting him to tell me to pound sand but I'm hoping I'm wrong.

I'll post updates as I have more to tell.

The gunsmith blamed the feed problems on the mag.  No surprise there, I didn't think he'd own up to having made a mistake.  I sent pix documenting the feed problem and proving the mags are just fine.  I'd post the pix here but I'm without web hosting right now...
