New Seating Die. New "problem"

I have never had this happen before.  A new 30-06 Seating Die, first use, cleaned with alcohol, closed the ram with the case on the bullet, and at withdrawal of the ram, expecting a seated bullet on the case, the bullet stuck in the Seating Die and only the case withdrew!

I took the Seating Die apart, screwed the seating stem upside down in the die body, held it in place through the center hole of the ram, and took the picture.






I used the Hot Glue technique to make the die "fit" the bullet and that worked perfectly .  Oh yeah, 30-06, RCBS die, Midway 150 grain FMJ bullets.

i Did not thick you had to  hot glue the bullets like that i thought they did on their own

I thought I was going to have to use vice grips to get the stuck bullet out of the seating die.  It was plenty stuck.  THEN, I didn't lubricate the front of the bullet when I stuck it in the hot glue and the hot glue stuck TIGHT to the bullet.  That was no fun getting off.  Learned several new things that I didn't want to know that day...

Couldn't you polish the inside of the bullet seater with a dremel tool?

Perhaps Tony, but the space inside the seating plug is tiny, I am ham handed, and a Dremel is a fast way for me to screw something up.  Got any suggestions?

maybe drop a bit of candle wax in it?

I might try some sort of abrasive compound, valve grinding, polishing, maybe even toothpaste to wipe on the bullet and spin either the seating stem or the bullet and work it around to break the surface bond.

^^^good idea^^^  I'll sacrifice a bullet or two and give that a try.  I've got some pulled bullets with base diameters that have been squished and won't seat at all in any case sized for 0.308".  Maybe chuck one up in the hand drill, which can be variable speed, and polish away.

The dies seating plug and bullet secant are different.  Sometimes they sell different bullet seating plugs to accommodate.

  Apply a dab of jewelers rouge on a  dremel felt tip polishing cone .

Actually that's pretty much what I was thinking.  Jeweler's rouge or other polishing compound meant for harder metals...
