Gents:
Just signed up.logged in and already I need help. Am looking for resources on where to find a Model 999 Sportsman and a resource on it's value and on H&R in general. My step dad had one many years ago and now I am looking for a replacement. Just lost out on one and am still looking. Any help would be appreciated.

As far asthe H&R in general, they are great guns. Once in a while one needs a little TLC to perform at its best but once done they are reliable and accurate.

I traded off my Marlin 336C in 35 rem to come back to an H&R.

A 999 is a top break, 9 shot, .22 cal, with a 6inch barrel. As far as I can tell, this model and "Sportsman" are one in the same.

Sorry I can't help you USMC vet, I have a H&R "Sportsman" 9 shot .22 LR revolver that was my father-in-laws. He was an armorer in the army (infantry). It is a fun gun to shoot. If I do see one or hear of one for sale I will advise you. Carry On!....<><.... :grin:

Found a Sportsman for 'ya www.gunsamerica.com . $259 is asking price. I"m kinda looking for one as well, been scrounging local gun stores with no luck. I'm kinda leery about buying a used gun sight unseen. Good luck in your search.

Keep an eye out for local auctions. I bought a sportsman (pre 999) at a household auction for $80 about three years ago. I also saw one go the year before for over $400.

I posted my inquire in the Rimfire handgun section also, but you guys probably can answer this for me sooner I bought a H&R 926 break-open .22. Any info on this revolver? It is a true double action only (only major drawback IMO), but is in good shape for the $$$.

Are the 999s or Sportsman models double action only too, or can they be shot single action as well? It seems like a well built firearm. Anything to watch out for?
