BP Sabots work in 45-70
« on: March 07, 2004, 09:42:07 AM »
Several years ago when sabots were first coming out for the Black Powder crowd, someone offered sabots in .45, .50, and .54 cal using .30 cal bullets.  At the time my wife and I were shooting .45cal Kentucky style rifles.  I made a mistake when ordering and ended up with 1000, .45 cal sabots.  Oh well I figured I'd use them or trade them.  They got shoved back onto a shelf and forgotten.  Last week my son found them and asked what they were for.  I showed him how they worked in a .45cal black powder gun.  He asked if they could be loaded in his 45-70.  Got me to thinking.  Keeping two teenagers in ammo is getting expensive.  I also have over 1000 150 grain .30 cal ball bullets I pulled out of military 7.62 ammo.  I gave each 500 sabots, 500 bullets, and 100 45-70 cases.  I set four cans of Pyrodex  RS on the bench and told them when that runs out I'll get them some more.  They are experimenting and having a blast.  They can't overload their shell because the case won't hold enough Pyrodex, and the bullets with sabot are too light.  They are having fun reloading, and getting familure with their Handis in the back yard.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
