Three suspended for taking photo without masks.  This at a gathering unassociated with and some distance from the school.

  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9557907/UMass-Amherst-suspends-three-students-maskless-photo-campus-party.html

So, since the students are suspended, do they get any part of their $16,000 semester tuition back?

Not from that school!  Just how far does that school's "authority" extend?  Are they supposed to be the parent, the police and conscience of each student?

Once enrolled, does the student become the 'property' of the school ?

Like it or not, if they pick up the virus while un-masked, they can bring it back to campus. My neighbor's son, who plays pro ball down in Texas got it (covid-19) even though the team was locked down. Several others on the team did too. For someone being paid over a million bucks, that's a big financial loss to someone (team or players).

Total BS, they were not even physically in school, so no chance of spreading the CCP Virus, and now they are banned from virtual Learning and completing their lite education???

How many of these people that made the decision can be found in pictures without masks?  I say we make it a mission to find out.

If the incident occurred at the school, perhaps it would be better understood.  However, the event they attended apparently was far from the school and in no way related to it!

How far should  the school authority reach?  Should they have absolute control over every facet of the student's life?  Should the school be able to dictate student actions far beyond the campus, and at events having nothing to do with said school?

From the news broadcast, some searcher in the school discovered the photo while snooping into the students' personal communications.  Could their lives stand up under the same scrutiny?  Could just be another case of blatant hypocrisy !
As I see it, the school broke the contract, and unless wearing masks in all situations, on and off campus is specifically covered, the girls should beat least reinstated or given their tuition money back.  Then perhaps some financial recovery for the inconvenience.
If I were them, i would take any settlement awarded and find another school, one which is less inclined to being so nosey and dictatorial !

The school set the rules, they knew the rules, IF you don't like the rules, don't go to that school...

  Seems pretty simple to me.

  Question ay hand;
Does such schools have legitimate control over every facet of the student's life, whether at the school, at home or across the ocean?

I would suggest that if the school, demands such control over each student's life, it should be backed by a  contract, signed by both sides.

Should your employer have such control over you?  The IRS has a strong interest in your money, so should
the IRS control how you earn/spend  money?

Even the military doesn't demand such long range , minute control over their members.

The REAL question is, why did they go to that school when they "knew the rules"??

Some here are saying, "yea I knew the rules, but I didn't like them so I did what I wanted".

NOW those gals are crying because they got caught!  I REPEAT, if you didn't like the rules, why did they go to that school???

I have rules in my house, you don't like them, don't come here!!!

The University of Massachusetts at Amherst is known as a liberal school and is proud enough to say so.
I would imagine that these 3 little mistreated angels are just as liberal, or they wouldn't have gone to that university.
Ya get what you ask for. I doubt I could care any less.

DM...

Because when the girls enrolled the school didn't have such silly rules. The school made the rule after Covidmania came along. Who in their right mind, including libs, would ever think the school you're paying for would have tentacles that can reach you even yiur far away from the campus?.

The school broke the contract and owes the girls a refund in the minimum.

IG asked:

''

Answer:  Yes, in countries where the schools are extentions of the State like libbers think, and the China System.

BINGO!  ..And therein lies the crux of the situation !

How do you know that such were the rules...have you seen the contract?

Do we deceive ourselves?  Do we really believe that these is the only students who broke the rules..if such rules do exist, and if all the students were apprised of them ?

It was said on Fox News, that some other attendee at the celebration, posted the pics, unannounced to the girls.

If that is the case, and the celebration was not a wide open public event..the one who posted the photo, without permission, could be in trouble.

I agree with you that they should get some money refunded, but I don't think it's unreasonable for the school to make the rules, when they did.  I mean it's not like they are the only organization in the country to make up rules because of covid.

I run into the same thing here all the time, with places telling me I have to wear a face diaper!

..And it is not likely that the 3 girls in question, were the ONLY students that weekend who may have went without a mask, just long enough to take a photo !
Agreed; if the school was that 'offended", they should be at least gracious enough to offer the students their tuition back, since it is the school which is cutting short their matriculation.

As Dee said, the school, the girls and their parents are likely all hopeless lefties, but still there is the principle.

But since when did lefties act on principle? Their lefties. Anything goes. The tuition payers are reaping what they've sown.
Support liberal universities, reap liberal benefits.
