  Especially for those who served in Germany during the cold war.  Here is a film from the last days of WW2.

  It is expertly remastered, and shows how early on most Germans "got with the program", although there were some die-hard Hitler partisans, who had to be hunted down in the woods and a few sore-loser snipers around.

  Most of the country was under US occupation already..  At this time, many refugees are streaming from the east, so they can surrender to American forces.  They definitely wanted nothing to do with the Russians.

  The opening scenes brought back some memories..the defeated German men, now going to and from work, must have taken good care of their "schnitzel bags", because they darn sure had theirs with them.

  For those unfamiliar . .. A  'schnitzel bag', is a brief case, which the average German working man carries his lunch in.
  Those guys in suits with felt hats and brief cases aren't all bankers and lawyers, most are probably bakers, plumbers. painters of mechanics.
