I would also like to point out that Kentucky has the largest Elk herd east of the Mississippi River. Numbering +/- 5000 animals with 200 tags offered this season. A lot of 300" elk being taken each season.

I just moved to Ky. Warren county; from The hurricane magnate (Florida) last year.  My 1st year hunting 2 deer (no monster but meat for the freezer) and a turkey.  Lived in Fla. off and on over 20 years.  Got a few deer as a kid in northern Fl., quail and doves but the only turkey was a tom that attacked my jeep.  There's a flock of turkeys every evening in a field within walking dist from my house, if I can only find the land owner to get permission.  Have found a few land owners that think of deer and turkeys as pets.  Over all I'm sold on Ky.  Did 4 years in Louisiana, they have hogs year round, lots of fun with a pistol. but I never got a shot at any deer.  You'd see them on the way out to the stand and anywhere you couldn't shoot.  In Ky they seem to have a healthy population.  Had many more sightings of decent bucks after my buck tag was used.
