guy bought it up yesterday. Guy got a nice boat. 22 foot whaler in about mint shape. I was going to downsize next year anyway and am building a house so dont have time for it this year anyway. Had it in the water yesterday to blow the cob webs out of it and a guy at the lanch said he was looking for one just like it. We talked for about 5 minutes and i took him for a spin and he gave me a check for a grand to hold it till monday when he could get to the bank and get some cash. Is been a great boat and ill miss it but its a money eater with twin outboards and paying for a mooring slip up till this year because its big enough to be a pain to launch. Might look at a 17 footer next year. That way i can get rid of my small boat too and have the same one for small lakes and the big lake.

Sold my last boat about the same way. Mine was docked and ready to fish. A guy made me a ridiculous offer on a Saturday and paid me cash on Monday. Tears of joy all the way home

every business in munising is begging for workers. Even the higher paying ones. took the county 6 months to find a plow driver because of unemployment and nobody want to get drug tested. As long as whitmer keeps paying them big bucks to stay home they sure arent going to work at some canoe rental for minimum wage. Heck burger king is offering 12 bucks an hour starting pay. My wife works at the hospital as the head billing clerk and has been there 19 years and just got a raise to 17. She doesnt even get free work clothes

ya this guy asked what i wanted. i had a fair idea what it was worth and added two grand to that in case he wanted to dicker and as soon as i said it he said sold. He stopped by this morning to talk about maintence oils fuel ect I had to laugh i told him i got everything off it i want and he said "I thought youd take the radio and the two fish finder/gps units. could have kept them too. He was happier then hell. Only thing i took off of it were my life jackets fishing poles and lures and one electric downrigger. it had two and i had one manual one in the barn i gave him for the other side. He got a good laugh. he was going through it and opened one of the coolers and there were two buds in it. I told him he could have them too they were from last year. Hes hauling it to Escanaba tomorrow. it will be a lake michigan boat now. Cant say i wont miss it. Had lots of fun on it but that fun didnt come cheap.

When my wife passed away I sold our pontoon boat as I would not be using it again. My son is a licensee fishing guide so when I wont to go fishing he plans a day for us and he even cleans the fish. Pay back for when I started taking him when he was 4 years old can't beat a deal like that and he knows where the fish are.

had to chuckle last night myself decon. My son in law is a diesel mechanic and works on the side fixing the commercial fishermen's boat. He worked on one yesterday and brought me 8lbs of lake trout filets. Im not a big fan of lake trout but the price was sure right. My kind of fishing!! Not an once of expensive fuel and didnt even have to wash my hands.

Boat values are crazy, at least down here. There are no new boats on the dealer floors and used boats are ridiculous. A new top end walleye boat will run you north of $100K. I have a 2007 18ft walleye boat that I paid $18.5k for it used in 09 and I could easily get +$20 for it now, problem is replacing it would cost me dearly to upgrade.

I called the whaler dealer i bought it from. Asked him what to ask for it and got 2k more. But like you said i also asked him about new ones and he about said good luck come back next year and try. and he said if you want one then youd better be putting money down. Something i wont do because things can change to much in a year. If i get one it will be a 17-19 footer and ill probably buy something used. That way i dont feel so guilty with a 70k boat sitting there not getting used. id doubt id spend more then 20k next time.

Very interesting. It didn't dawn on me till I read the last couple posts. I live a stones throw from lake Erie and the Chagrin river and pass 3 big marinas on the way to my shop. Always a line of boats for sale at these marinas. I haven't seen any for sale lately. Never thought there would be a shortage of boats for sale around here, its always been a buyers market.

A friend of mine ordered a boat in November, at the time they said it would be delivered in March, latest he heard was now September if he's lucky.

My son had a customer out fishing and the guy offered him a great price to buy his boat and he said he would think on it. Later that evening he did some looking and found it would cost him more than double to replace it and doing more checking there are no new boats to be had as well as motors and other equipment to out fit it. Homes here are selling in a day or two after being listed . Lumber prices are out of sight. and look at the price of guns and ammo at the gun shows, double or triple what they are worth.

ya decon its sure not the right time to sell if you need to replace what you sell. But if its something you dont need or used and its collecting dust theres been no better time to peddle it. Especially if you can hold on to the money and this craziness stops and prices get back to sanity.

Another problem we have at the DMV in Oklahoma is we must pay sales tax on what we are registering actually I think it is a luxury tax any way when we go in to do the title work you are charged a tax so just think what people must pay when they go to the DMV to do the paper work and get it licensed and put in your name. It can run into thousands of dollars. Several years ago new pick could run over 2000 dollars that is plus the tag and transfer fee and then there are the high price SUV today. It is the same for used they don't care what you payed it is what the computer says you owe.

michigan taxes you when you register too. But they take the number you give them. Unless you try to tell them you bought a one year old vette for 2k. Boats are tougher for them because used prices vary so much on them. My boat being 12 years old could have been worth anything from 10kk to 70k.

close but not quite. It didnt matter much to the buyer but the twins were 2 strokes and had just a smidge over 500 hours on them so they were mid life at best. Still ran great though. But youd be into around 30k just to replace them. I know even he new two strokes hold up well but I dont think id pay that kind of money with motors over 300 hours even 4 strokes. But when you factor in the electronics down riggers ect that a guy adds as he goes and tends to forget when he thinks about what its worth. Just put a new 12/120 vt fridge in it last year and changed the alcohol cook top out to a propane unit. Redid all the outside vinyl the year before and had new covers and tops made. 4 new batterys and trailer tires this year. Like i said there money pits. I chuckled at people that had 4 strokes that bragged they got 1 more mpg then i did. Not only did my motors cost 25 percent less but gas is actually only a small part of what it cost to have a boat bigger then 18 foot. Just the service on two out boards with new water pumps every spring was 500 bucks.

premium. For the longest time,
the value of a boat was in the
motors, and to a lesser extent,

yup talked to the local whaler dealer and he said he has 24 boats on order and only one in stock a 27 footer that he wants a 199k for. Not every ones cup of tea and surely not in my budget range now or ever. He said he can set up a 20 year loan. Told him im lucky if id be around for the end of that. My new boat days are over. he said if boats dont start comming REAL SOON hes going to have to close his showroom and just keep the service dept open. He already layed off all his sales staff and hes the only salesman and his wife is taking care of the rest of it. Said he only had 8 boats at the begining of the year and other 7 (smaller ones) sold within 2 days of arrival. Only boats he can get right now are aluminum fishing boats and pontoons and even they arent comming fast enough.

Just curious about your new water pumps every year? Why every year, doesn't sound like you ran very many hours and that is a lot of money for it. I do my 150 and 9.9 Yamaha and it's an easy 45 minute job with $50 in parts. I check mine every couple years and replace about every 4-5 just for kicks, only once did my kickers impellor showed wear.

i change them because like you said there inexpensive and easy to change and good insurance against being 30 miles from shore and having a motor calf. Yup i had twins so i could get home but not everyone does and even when i got home id be looking at 5k or more to rebuild it if it didnt get shut off in time. Even that really wasnt an issue because the electronics in my motor gave a high temp alarm and at a preset temp cut the power down to not much over idle. But again not all motors especially older ones have that feature. With many the first sign you have of a pump failure is a siezed motor. Its just a habit i got into over 30 years ago. Every spring i changed the gear case oil (and crank oil on a 4 stroke) and put a new water pump in.

It's cheap insurance
I consider it preventative maintenance.
It's way worse nowadays because people
let their stuff go to pot, then get mad because
a major repair cost them so much and they
feel like they've been ripped off.
If you've ever been out a couple of hours
out of sight of anything but water, you'll
want everything in tip top shape. And
unless I'm mistaken, the Coast Guard charges
out the wazzoo for towing your pos boat
back to shore, so your cellphone isn't
as big of a saviour as all the 21st century
people think it is

I dont know if the coast guard charges anything today but they didnt back when i was in in the early 70s. your tax dollars paid for there stupidity.
