Are there any other smokeless muzzleloaders out there that are less than 700 bucks? Does anyone know if the encore smokeless barrel is the same barrel but with a modified breech plug. I would think that if one would make a breech plug that rested on the frame to back up the thread strength on the encore that it would be possible to use smokeless. Just an idea.

The Savage 10ML-II remains the only production muzzleloader designed for smokeless I'm aware of-- for no more than many quality, "regular" muzzleloaders, and actually less than many.

I'll never go smokeless...I just like the smoke and the smell...Darn impressive if I do say so myself.

Its not the smoke and the smell that bother me...........its the spit patching and cleaning along with the scope scorching blow-by that annoys me. Plus its really hard to reach 2400fps and still have good shoulder mobility        woods

Yup...I know all about that stuff...I protect my scope with a scope protector and some electric tape.  2400 fps?  If I wanted those speeds I would use a centerfire

Unfortunately not during most ML'er seasons I'm aware of. Only guns doing that during ML season up here in Maine are smokeless ML'ers (and they're doing it with a lot less recoil and cost per shot). Eliminates the need for scope protectors and tape as well as cleaning every day or so. Different propellants for different hunters I guess.

That's why they call them choices. Roundballs can hit 2400 fps as well, but what does muzzle velocity alone have to do with anything?

Tuck - Having purchased a 209x50 encore a few months ago, I have been wondering the same.  Why doesn't T/C offer a smokeless barrel/breach plug alternative for the encore?

As an alternative to resting the plug on the frame it seems that the use of a brass case, similar to Precision Rifles' 22 Hornet conversion, would provide the necessary seal/reinforcement against the higher smokeless pressures - as in centerfire rifles.  It seems like offering a smokeless system would be an easy thing for T/C to do.  But I guess if you are able to sell the non-smokeless variety faster than you can make them there may not be any reason to change - yet.

Little reason to compete against themselves, as the Encore already one of the hottest sellers around-- selling better right now as a muzzleloader than it ever did as a rifle.
