$14.95 for 1000 CCI200 LR Primers

No I'm not selling them.

That's the price on the box of them I found hiding on my reloading bench this morning.

I'm slowly working on loading up 50 rounds of .30-06 for Matt's new TC Venture rifle.

I picked out 51 RP once fired cases, have them all trimmed to length, deburred, chamfered and now primed.

I think I've about decided on 51.0 grains of Varget to load them and stuff in Hornady 150 SST bullets. That load has worked well in other '06 rifles for me so I think it's what I'll try first. I'll likely load only a few initially and then check it on the range to see how it works in his rifle.

I thought you guys might be interested tho in the price marked on that box of 1000 primers in light of the prices being asked and I guess paid by some these days.

I knew I had a partial 100 box but didn't think I had anymore. I got out a flashlight tho and went searching in the dark recesses of my old loading bench where I store powder and primers and found a full thousand. That's plenty to get me thru this current silliness and back to whatever the new normal is.

Last July I paid $35 for 1000 Remington 9-1/2 LR primers and started to tear up. Bought 4000 more this spring and about had to sell a kidney. I don't even want to discuss how much I paid for 2000 Remington 7-1/2 SR.

ive had great luck with accuracy using ssts. There usually in the top 3 in about every gun ive worked loads up for. They kill like the hammer of thor too. Only downside is there a bit destructive if you shoot meat. In my experience even more so then sierras or nos bts. One of the most messed up deer i ever shot was with a 300wsm using a 150 sst that i hit in the shoulder at 200 yards. Only meat i got out of that deer was one hind quarter. My fault. Shoot them behind the shoulder where you should and they work fine. I just got impatient one night because it was getting dark and shot it there on purpose. Just worked up loads for a new model 70 280 and 139 ssts were THE bullet in that gun. My new 6.5-300 loved them too but im just leary at 3500 fps so i went with interlocks which shot just a tad bigger group. It also shot bts and sierrras real well but again that kind of velocity needs a bit stouter bullet. Probably try some x bullefs in it next year but the interlocks will do for now and i have a pile of them. by the way I load for 3 3006s and everyone of them shoots moa or better with 4350 and a 150 interlock. Shook my head last year when i picked up a featherweight in 06. Thought it was a fluke that that load shot so well in the other two. But when the featherweight shot it that well i stopped right there. No need to waste bullets and powder these days when a good load works the first time.

Lloyd do you notice much difference in the Hodgdon vs IMR in the 4350?

yes and no. Some guns yes some no. I have a preference for imr but i believe anymore the imr and h 4350 are the same thing. What ive been told is so is aa4350 now. I have seen group sizes vary in the past in some guns. But that said i had a load worked up for my new 280 and like a dummy had a case that had tumbling media in it and thought id double charged it and dumped it back in the dispensor and dumped a case full of tumbling media in it. It was the last of my h4350 so i called my buddy and he had a can but hes 50 miles away. I had about 3 lbs of old aa4350 so before i made the ride i thought id try it. It did open the group from 7/8s to one inch. Figured that was good enough for the girls i run with. I then tested them over the chrony. I had 10 rounds of h4350 loads and 10 with aa4350 and the load i used gave me 2905 average and the same powder charge of aa4350 gave me an average of 2954 so the aa4350 was a bit faster. But then my experience is that powders can vary that much lot to lot and even more so for the old AA powders. Ill say this. If your looking for the last .2 of an inch group size it will pay you to try all three and hopefully have enough of the same lot of the one that does best. But it isnt like a different 4350 is going to make a 3/4 inch group turn into a 2 inch group. Powder preference for a gun is more related to burn rate then brand or type of powder. All three 4350s are close enough to the same. Same can be said of h4831 and imr4831. But like i said if your buying new powder the only difference is the color of the can. Through the years the biggest difference between irm and h have been with 4895. My guess is there the same now too. I used to see differences between the three in 1680 too but anymore i just dont see it. 4227 was another one that used to be two totaly different powders that are the same today.

Thank you Lloyd. I got 3# of IMR 4350 in a package deal last year. It has shot unbelievably in 270/243/6mm for me. Almost hard to pick a load with it because it shoots every charge really well. Got 3# of H4350 in another deal this spring and hope the H performs similar.

That's a good deal!  My best deal on primers was for Win 209's.  Got them at a Dick's about 15 years ago, they were marked $1.75/box so I grabbed 2,000 primers.  Cashier rung them up for a total of $3.50 for 2,000 primers...

The first reloading I did was for 12 ga.shot shells back in 1969. I remember well the place where I bought my components was Bobs Marathon, a gas station that also sold guns and reloading supplies and primers were .99 a hundred or $ 7.99 per 1000,
I would buy Red Dot powder weighed on a scale from a 15 pound keg for $ 2.75 per pound.
I don’t know how those prices compare to today’s adding inflation but to me when I paid that I thought it was high !

I have a 15# keg of red dot that is marked $56 so it must be newer than when you were buying it by the pound...

I have a partial box of CCI #400 SRP marked $7.25 (per thousand) which is all I have left of the 5000 that I originally bought.  Also have a partial box of Federal 215 priced at $14.95 per thousand.  Things have definitely changed.

Midway has primers, $79 a thousand.  Powder - check Hodgdon web site, its hit a miss but I just got 3 lbs of Lil Gun.  Just check them every couple of days and you will eventually find what your looking for.  Hazmat fee is $36.00 and a limit on how much you can order.
