“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.”
― Thomas Jefferson
So, which of the 'encroachments' listed below, should be done away with ?
Health and safety regulations are not always "government tyranny"! We elect governments for mutual safety.
Governments are expected to do for the people, the things the people cannot do for themselves..
A) The government should have been even more alert, where Bernie Madoff was concerned.
B) If the Chinese were to try raiding the Alaskan fisheries, thank goodness the US government may intervene.
C) Forest fires may be more of a challenge, if each property owner were left to his own devices.
D) It is comforting to know that our food and medicines are relatively safe.
E) Airlines running willy-nilly about the country, competing for fares, without federal safety inspections, may cause problems.
F) When you fill the tank on your car/truck..do you want 20 gals when you pay for 20 gals? Do you want 93 octane when you pay for 93 octane, or would 77 octane be fine with you ?
..And this list could be yards long...
At this very time, there is an experiment going on, featuring many thousands of people who are acting in concert to ignore reasonable laws and restrictions, so does the situation presently transpiring on our southern border, get your voice of approval?
Not one of those things you mentioned involves the government forcing you to buy a product against your will, try again.
A) Helps me to avoid buying a completely non-existent product.
B) may help me protect a business i already bought.
C) Would not force me to buy some very expensive fire fighting equipment.
D) Would not force me to expensive medical assistance/treatments.
E) May keep me from buying funerals..they are expensive.
F) Will keep me from paying full price for a substandard product..or replacing an engine.
.....So the trade off isn't too bad ..
When the government does your "hands off" thing..and the border is flooded with illegals, so most here on GBO end up buying many dollars worth of food, clothing, shelter, food stamps, medical services and other items, which none of us need.
There are some few 'governments', such as Somalia, that seeming practice a "hands off" position... but of course, few people there drive.
Quoting DB...
"Not one of those things you mentioned involves the government forcing you to buy a product against your will" Nobody 'forces' you to buy anything...my Amish neighbors are not forced insure their horses and buggies! The license/insurance costs on my 50cc scooter are quite low.
Such costs it seems are relative to how much damage an irresponsible driver can do.
