I have always wondered what made Oaks have a good crop of fruit , acorns ? When I lived in OH I had 11 acres of woods with several species of oaks and only some years the acorns would be so thick on my trail that you had to be careful not to slip and fall because of them. Most years you had to actually look to find a few ? And I used to take my dog almost daily through the woods at a large wooded park 2000 + acres near me and find a similar thing with acorns. In my area the white oaks which there are several sub species of are the most prized by the wildlife as food and only every few years there would be what I would call a good crop.
I once had a crazy Dalmatian that would eat most anything, including acorns.
