Does anyone know why NEF/H&R don't make a 45cal. huntsman. Thanks.     ogo

I don't know if they still do. But I'm pretty sure at one time they did.

One good reason is that the .50 cal is the most populer.  Also several states have a .50 cal minimum for hunting with a muzzleloader.  H&R made the original Huntsman in .45, .50, .54, and .58 cal.  Those guns had an inherant problem of opening and the breech plugs flying out upon firing.  That's why the original H&R was sued and went out of business.  Too many busted heads.  If I had one it would be strictly a wall hanger.

2 years ago when they started the huntsman they had a 45 in production. But, the twist in the barrel would not stabilize anything in 45 caliber. So, they discontinued it

Too bad!  A .45 barrel with a 1/18 twist would have me ponying up right now!!  Not legal for elk in my state but ok for deer bear and antelope.

I'd love to have a fast twist 45 to shoot those old style Whitworth bullets outta :grin:

A 45 would be cool...It would give me a reason to send my Huntsman receiver, stock and forearm back to H&R for another barrel....Like I really need another barrel... :shock:

I sent my receiver for a .45 2 years ago. Got a call that said NEF was all out of .45 barrels... I guess they discontinued what they were advertising at that time... I wish they would introduce.. Just for the novelty>

I saw a pair of .45 huntsmans sunday at a big gun place in maine... both of em were used, one was from about (99) if i remember correctly,and the other looked really old. Both of em were going for cheap money- about 100 bucks for the older one, and 115 for the newer. I was even considering picking one up just to have it, but decided not to. I guess it was a good idea I left the guns there, ehh?
