You can make a slate call yourself real easy. I make tham myself. plus I make box calls and experimenting on making and owl call and wing bone call.

Varminter;
Ive been building box calls for a few years now.....after much trial and error im finally geting what i want out of them.
I havent really dove into the depths of friction calls yet but plan to build a couple this year.
a good source for slate (if your looking to start a project) is Dollywood there is a guy there with a regular stand who sells slate from old slate roofed buildings....they paint pictures and stuff on it. But he will cut peices any size you want. sells it cheap....or atleast he use to.

Tcallbuilder,

I am looking to buy some slate to build a few calls to replace the custom one that got broke last year :cry: .  The guy that made it for me has long since passed away.  My question to you is do you have an address for this Dollywood you mentioned?

I just thought, one potential source might be roof slates.

im not sure about the exact adress but Dollywood is located in Pigon Forge Tenn. In the smokey mountians near the Cherokee Indian reservation.
you can find them on line at www.dollywood.com then click on crafts.
