Fins on base
« on: February 23, 2004, 03:55:48 PM »
Veral,

I just picked up a used LBT mould.  The sprue plate screw seems to be adjusted correctly.  The holddown pin is working properly, BUT, there are fins on the base of the bullets.  Hold it up to the light, and you can see light in the center of the mould. The edges show no light.   Warped sprue plate?  Can this be fixed?

Yes it can be easily fixed at the LBT shop, or you can perhaps lap the sprueplate flat again.  Lay a piece of abrasive paper on a plate of glass and rub the sprueplate on it till it shines all the way across.  Start with 120 grit paper and after the plate shines all the way across, polish it up with progressively finer grints down to 220.

If you return it to LBT for repair I will have to quote you a price, as I have no idea whether the sprue plate is the only problem.  Also you'll have shipping both ways.   I will not repair any of the many counterfit molds being made by others but called LBT.
