30-30 Accelerator
« on: March 13, 2004, 01:52:23 AM »
Anyone shot the Remington 30-30 Accelerator? Have to use caution because they are pointed, not filling tube.  But they are 55gr .223 with a sabot. Published velocity 3400 fps. Very flat to 200 yds. I'm thinking this would be an excellent varmit load. anyone?

Not only have I shot them, but I bought a few hundred Remington sabot bullets to try working up loads with. My results with the various factory .30-30, and .30-06 Rem Accelerators were not really impressive. Now that's not to say they were bad, but 1.5" at 100 yds, was about the best they offered. If I didn't own a good .22 centerfire varmint rifle, then they would be a good choice, but as my Remington 700 in .22-250 will group under 1" at 100 yds, I don't play with the accelerators anymore.

:? Just keep in mind fellas, that the size of the projectile isn't necessarily what makes the gun legal for shooting non-game species.  Here in South Carolina, we cannot use a centerfire period.  I looked into this awhile back and asked a couple of GMs.  All agreed that the way their law is written, I could not use the accelerators.
