My oldest GG daughter is 13 years old. She had been driving her pa-pa's golf cart and my small lawn mower and small tractor for sometime now. Her mother lets her drive her suv but it's only for about a 1/3 mile stretch in a 30 mph zone. I have started her driving in my jeep wrangler this summer as I live out of town and we can just head off on county roads for miles and miles without seeing but a very few vehicles. She is limited to 40 mph, has learned how to use a cruise control, make a u-turn when she misses a turn, use turn signals and not wander all over the road. The jeep is great because it is high enough to see out of easily, isn't overpowered and she can adjust the seat to fit her. Kid is is doing great and has managed to burn almost a tank of gas for me this week.

Friday we went for another learning experience and she took her camera as she likes to take pictures and we have some sunflowers this year. Upon out return home she wanted to stop at one more sunflower patch to get some pictures and take some of the flowers home with her. Her 10 year old sister went with us and while they were across the road taking pictures I stepped out and went in front of the jeep. There lay a snake someone had run over  and it tuned out to be a prairie rattler. I called the girls to show them their first rattlesnake. When I stretched it out out it was about the largest one I have ever seen being a good 4 feet long. Little sister looked it over and immediately asked if we could keep the rattles. Typical for her as she is a bug and small critter catcher. I cut them off and gave them to her and she then wanted to see it's fangs. I tried but it's head was in bad enough shape from being run over that they wouldn't raise up where they were visible.

JMHO-  it's good that you couldn't
take the head. Poisonous snakes
are still as dangerous dead as alive
when it comes to casually handling
them

You could have skinned that snake and made bracelets for the girls.

I made no effort to take the head. I simply pried it's mouth open with the blade of my pocket knife to let her see the fangs but they wouldn't extend. It was large enough to have made an adult's belt, not just bracelets. I really wasn't interested in skinning a ripe snake.
